TIM UPSDELL   –  PRINCIPAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Tim Upsdell is the Principal Psychologist at Fleurieu Psychology Services.   His academic qualifications include a Masters in Psychology (Clinical) and a Masters in Psychology (Organisational). He has also completed a Certificate in Family Therapy from the Dulwich Centre, and has training in a number of specific techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Hypnosis and Rapid Eye Movement Desensitisation. He worked for 10 years with offending and homeless youth and 13 years in the area of Vocational Rehabilitation for people with disabilities, both physical and psychological before establishing Fleurieu Psychology Services in 2003.

Tim consults at Tavwick House Christies Beach on Monday and Thursday, Hallett Cove on Wednesday, Goolwa on Tuesdays, Aldinga once a fortnight on a Friday, and GP Axis Seaford-Meadows once a fortnight on a Saturday.  N.B. Tim is not taking on any new clients.

NIGEL SKEATES  –  PSYCHOLOGIST

Nigel has a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, two Post Graduate Diplomas of Psychology (Psychology and Psychological Studies), a Bachelor of Business and an Advanced Diploma in Salvation Army Ministry. He is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and an Associate member of the Australian Psychological Society. Nigel is a practitioner with experience across a range of psychological areas, including Depression, Anxiety, Anger, Stress, Addictions (Alcohol, Drugs and Gambling), Grief and Loss, Relationship & Marital Difficulties, Adolescents & Young Adult Life Issues, and General Life Choice Issues. He has a specific interest in Male Health and Wellbeing, and is particularly interested in the experience, role, and importance of fathers. Nigel has a vast array of experience within both the private and non-government sectors. This includes working in Mental Health Research and Development, Community Mental Health, Psychological Assessment and Interventions for Employment Services, Domestic Violence, Private Practice as well as Management and Human Resources.

BRONWYN BUTLER  –  PSYCHOLOGIST

GRAD DIP APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY; BA PSYCHOLOGY; ASSOC MAP

Bronwyn received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from NT University. She undertook a 2 year internship with Tim Upsdell at Fleurieu Psychology Services. She is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and has been an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society since 8/3/95.

Bronwyn worked for 7 years with St John Ambulance NT providing recruitment, counselling, Psychological Assessment and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. She was employed with Job Network for 10 years in various capacities including Job Capacity Assessment, Personal Support Program and providing Psychological Services to clients with multiple and severe barriers such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, anger, grief, alcohol and drug addictions, homelessness, childhood abuse and domestic violence.

Bronwyn has been with Fleurieu for 6 years and specialises in adults and older clients utilising therapies such as CBT, Strengths Based Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Client Centred Therapy and mindfulness techniques.

Bronwyn consults at Christies Beach on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Goolwa on Thursdays and Fridays.

CAROLA CARDOSO-KUNCAR  –  PSYCHOLOGIST

Carola Cardoso is a registered Psychologist with the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australia Psychologist Society (APS).  Carola focuses mainly on working with those suffering from chronic diseases to manage chronic pain and psychological associated complication.  She received a degree of Professional Psychologist and a Graduate Diploma in Strategic Communications at Diego Portales University in 2009 (Chile).  Then, she worked for 3 years in the department of communication and strategy at Redpath Chilean constructions, (http://www.redpathmining.com/regions/south-america/) as an Organisational Psychologist.

Carola came to Australia in 2011 to further develop her career.  Her degree in Professional Psychology has been recognised by the APS and she completed a master’s degree in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy at Flinders University.  Her research project was “Psychology, cancer and others Chronic diseases”.  She has work experience in different areas of psychological distress, including anger management, pain management, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, relationships and bullying.

Carola consults out of our Canberra, ACT, rooms by either Telephone or Video sessions or face to face for Canberra clients on Wednesdays.

 

PETER DAVIES  –  PSYCHOLOGIST

After over a decade of military service, Peter went on to study his Bachelor and Honours degrees in Psychological Science at the University of Adelaide.  He completed a two–year internship with Fleurieu Psychology and is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.  Peter enjoys working across the lifespan, from children to the elderly, and uses evidence-based approaches including; Neurotherapy (EEG Biofeedback); Heart Rate Variability training (HRV Biofeedback), CBT, Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT), and Schema therapy.  Peter focuses on ADHD, behavioural management, tic disorders, trauma, OCD and anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, and relationships.

BONNIE WEST  –  CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Bonnie initially completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2002 in South Africa, and after moving to the UK, she engaged in further training and was awarded a UK British Psychological Society (BPS) Statement of Equivalence in 2009.  She has recently moved to Adelaide and has successfully completed a Board-approved transitional program in order to achieve general registration as a Psychologist in Australia.  She also holds full registration in both South Africa and the UK.

Bonnie has worked as a Clinical Psychologist within the UK National Health Service (NHS) for the past 15 years within various mental health settings, including community mental health teams, acute mental health settings and a specialist eating disorder service.  Although she has experience of treating clients of all ages, the majority of her clinical practice to date has been with adults.  Her special interests include eating disorders, anxiety, trauma and mood disorders.

Bonnie utilises a formulation-based approach and will work with clients to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties in order to help design and carry out effective treatment plans.   She has been trained in a number of evidence-based psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR), Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) and Compassion-focused therapy (CFT).

Bonnie is consulting at the Hallett Cove Practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

REBECCA HORSNELL – PSYCHOLOGIST

Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), Graduate Certificate of Loss, Grief and Trauma Counselling.

Rebecca is a Registered Psychologist and completed her Bachelor and Honours in Psychology at Flinders University in 2013 and completed a Graduate Certificate in Loss, Grief and Trauma Counselling in 2019.

Rebecca completed a two year board approved internship under the supervision of Tim Upsdell and has been working at Fleurieu Psychology Services since the beginning of 2019, first as a Provisional Psychologist and then as a Registered Psychologist from 2021.

For 7 years Rebecca worked as a Community Mental Health Support Worker in the non government sector.  In this role, Rebecca worked with adults with a range of complex mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder and supported them to live independently, avoid hospital admission and work towards their recovery goals.

Rebecca is interested in working with people experiencing depression, anxiety and panic, trauma, suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviours.  She also has a special interest in perinatal mental health including post-natal depression and anxiety and general adjustment to parenthood.

Rebecca works with clients of all ages and endeavours to provide a safe, welcoming  and affirming space for gender and sexually diverse individuals and those who are neurodivergent.

Rebecca works at our Christies Beach practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

ADELE MURPHY  –  PSYCHOLOGIST

BA (Psychology and Counselling), Hons (Psychology)

Adele has a Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling from Edith Cowan University and Honours Degree in Psychology from Flinders University.  She is a general registered psychologist with the Psychology board of Australia.  In 2018, Adele worked at a non-government school for children on the Autism Spectrum as the school psychologist (provisional).  Adele has been working at Fleurieu Psychology Services during her internship since April 2017 under the supervision of Tim Upsdell.  Her areas of interest involves working with children and their families. Specifically behavioural management and intervention, anxiety, building social and emotional skills and resilience,  bullying, issues at school, Autism Spectrum Disorder and depression.  Adele has run social skills groups in schools including ‘What’s the Buzz’ and ‘Zones of Regulation’.

Adele is available at Christies Beach on Mondays and Tuesdays.

JONATHON WIRTH – PSYCHOLOGIST

Jonathon completed the Bachelor and Honours degree in Psychological Science at the University of Adelaide.  He has experience working with children and adults with varying mental health disorders including: post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, substance abuse, and intellectual disability.  He also has experience assisting people on the Return to Work scheme.  Jonathon has worked with children with autism in their homes and schools as a registered behaviour technician.  He has also worked with adults as a mental health support worker in their homes and the community as well as in Glenside and James Nash House.

Jonathon provides pragmatic solutions to client problems with a focus on the changes a person can make to their current life situation to improve their wellbeing.  He also periodically runs the PEERS social skills group for young adults who are interested in pursuing, maintaining, and improving friendships and romantic relationships.

Jonathon is at the Hallett Cove Practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

GRANT PLAYFORD – PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

BBS(Psychology) Swinburne, BPsycSc(Hons) CQU

Grant Playford was awarded a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies from Swinburne University followed by a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from Central Queensland University.  He is currently registered as a provisional psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority).  Grant began his internship with Fleurieu Psychological Services in January 2022 under the supervision of Tim Upsdell.

Grant sees clients at our Christies Beach Practice.

ALECIA SPINKS  –  PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Alecia completed her Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Honours) degree at Flinders University in 2021 and started a Board approved internship under the supervision of Tim Upsdell in June 2022.  She is registered as a provisional psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority), and is an Associate member of the Australian Psychological Society.  Alecia’s previous work experience includes various retail management roles, disability support work, and volunteering with Department of Corrections.

Alecia is neurodivergent and has much lived experience, including raising a neurodivergent family and navigating the challenges that go along with it.  She has a broad range of interests that include: working with neurodiverse people and their families, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, gender identity concerns, sleep, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviours, and forensic issues.  Alecia is passionate about providing inclusive mental health care and enjoys working with a diverse range of clients including the LGBTQIA+ community.

MEGAN KAHLBAUM – PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Megan Kahlbaum was awarded a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from Bond University, followed by a Masters of Professional Psychology from the University of New England. She is currently registered as a provisional psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority).  Megan began her internship with Fleurieu Psychological Services in January 2024 under the supervision of Tim Upsdell.

Megan works with clients of all ages.

CORBIN BUTLER – PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Corbin Butler received a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from the University of Adelaide in 2021. He aims to provide a warm, non-judgemental space for clients from all walks of life, and he is particularly passionate about working with autistic people and people experiencing socio-economic difficulties. Corbin is trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and schema therapy, and he is interested in working with clients to improve their wellbeing and better understand themselves. He began his internship with Fleurieu Psychological Services in January 2024 under the supervision of Tim Upsdell.

Corbin consults at our Christies Beach Practice on Monday and Friday mornings and Monday and Friday afternoons at the  Hallett Cove Practice.
