Telehealth & online psychology
Psychological support doesn’t always need to happen in person. Fleurieu Psychology Services offers telehealth appointments, allowing you to meet with your psychologist by telephone or secure video from home, work or another private location.
Telehealth can be particularly helpful for people living in regional or rural areas, those with mobility or transport difficulties, or anyone who finds it more convenient to attend appointments remotely.
Is telehealth effective?
Research has found that telehealth psychology can be an effective alternative to face-to-face therapy for many common mental health concerns. Sessions are conducted much like an in-person appointment, with the same focus on developing a therapeutic relationship, understanding your concerns and working towards your goals.
Your psychologist can discuss with you whether telehealth is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Convenient and accessible
Telehealth removes the need to travel, find parking or allow additional time around your appointment. All you need is a suitable device, a reliable internet connection and a private space where you feel comfortable talking.
Telehealth can also help maintain continuity of care when travel, work, family commitments or changes in circumstances make attending the practice difficult.
Assessments via telehealth
Some psychological assessments can also be completed wholly or partly via telehealth. Whether this is appropriate will depend on the type of assessment and the individual circumstances. Our team can advise you when booking.
Medicare rebates
Where eligibility requirements are met, Medicare rebates may be available for telehealth psychology appointments with an eligible psychologist under a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan.
